Neutron Activation Analysis relies on excitation by neutrons so that the treated sample emits gamma-rays. Activation analysis allows the precise identification and quantification of the elements in the sample.
Neutron Activation Analysis is very sensitive. Therefore it is used to analyse for minor elements, which are present in low concentrations. The method is especially useful for trace element analysis, e.g. in high-purity substances and is therefore important in semiconductor techniques. Other applications are the trace element analysis in water, biological material and minerals.
